Minimalism Is Not About Less, It’s About Appreciation

Minimalism is a practice that can really help us appreciate what we have and be very mindful about what we need, what we want, and what isn’t contributing to our well-being. So often we’re surrounded by stuff that we don’t want, that we’ll never use, and that is just creating clutter in our house, in our lives, and in our minds.

So if we start to really notice what we have, as we start to develop a more minimal lifestyle, a simpler, more peaceful lifestyle, gratitude becomes a natural byproduct of minimalism. Because once we start to whittle down what is just taking up space in our lives, we begin to really cherish what remains.

When we have so much stuff that we need storage lockers and attics to fill up and basements and boxes, we are creating a mindset where we will not even see or know what we have. So how can we appreciate it?

So minimalism, really, at its core, is a gratitude practice. Because we are truly honoring what enters our space, what enters our field of awareness. We are truly mindful of it. We are conscious of how it improves our lives. And there is really no way to be ungrateful when we have everything we need, when our wants are not out of control and causing us needless suffering.

And we can really give extra attention to the things we keep. We can truly cherish everything in our lives because we only let in what we truly want, need, and will appreciate.
