The Truth About the Holidays

Hello my friend,

As the holiday season approaches, I’m reminded of my friends and family who long for the celebrations.

They build the holidays up in their mind. They look so forward to them and make them into such a big deal. But then when they finally arrive, they’re already living in the future and sad it’s going to be over soon.

Many of us slog through the end of the year at our jobs, daydreaming about our vacations as we await our much-needed time off, only to later stress about how the vacation isn’t matching our expectations.

So here’s the question: Is it possible to make every day feel like Christmahannukwanzaa?

What’s better? Barely surviving the daily grind, living overwhelmed and burdened, always longing for the future and reminiscing about the past, only to maybe enjoy a few days a year?

Or, loving every single day more than the last, loving the whole of life, and loving the little in between moments as much as the big ones?

This holiday season and beyond, let’s tap into the joy beneath the content of our life story. Let’s embrace every little moment, give it our full attention as if it was the biggest day of the year. Let’s savor each bite of food as if it was a Thanksgiving feast. Let’s be excited for each day like it was our 21st birthday.

Let’s consciously choose to embrace every task and responsibility as if we love it more than anything else. Let’s pay attention to the thoughts that say otherwise, let’s refocus our mind on the benefits that all our hard work will bring us, and shift our energy from resisting this moment to charging toward it full steam ahead.

Get excited for every little mundane thing and everything will become exciting. Be happy for weekdays as much as the weekends and you’ll have a lot more happiness in your life.

The more we give every little moment our complete attention, the more the little moments become the big ones.
