What kind of world would we live in if simple mindfulness were taught in every school? If it were practiced in every company? If people learned mindfulness at home, on their own computers? The world would be a very different place.
Our minds project our reality. When we are mindless, we act without considering consequences. When we are unaware of the interconnected nature of all life on this planet, greed and conflict become normal.
Changing the world begins within.
Mindfulness is the training of the mind to be more present, more aware, and more focused. From these qualities arise patience, wisdom, peace, and joy. Imagine what a more mindful world would look like.
Everything we see around us that was built by human hands first existed in the mind. Someone imagined it and then brought it into form. In this sense, the world we inhabit is a reflection of our collective mental state.
As consciousness evolves, so does society. There was a time when slavery was widely accepted. Today, nearly every corner of the world recognizes it as immoral. This shift did not happen by accident, it happened through the evolution of human awareness. As a species becomes more mindful, actions and decisions are guided by compassion. In such a world, profit could not be the primary motivator.
Cooperation would replace competition, because everything we need can be achieved through working together.
In a mindful world, we would not consume in ways that harm the planet or future generations. We would be aware of the consequences of our actions. We would honor our ancestors by protecting the Earth for those who come after us.
Greed and corruption would lose their grip. If leaders were mindful of the interconnectedness of all humans and all species, we could finally address the problems we ourselves have created.
If we take care of the present, the future will take care of itself.
